Art Assets Conversion
UNIGINE provides automatic conversion of art assets via UnigineEditor. Also there is a set of tools that can be used for manual conversion of art assets to the required formats, if necessary.
Automatic Conversion
Automatic conversion of assets is performed via UnigineEditor: when you import a file of a type supported by the UNIGINE asset system, all required files in the native formats are generated.
To learn more on automatic assets conversion, read the Asset Types and Assets and Runtime Files articles.
UNIGINE Import System that allows importing art assets of external formats offers importing assets of the .fbx, .obj, .dae and .3ds formats out-of-the-box. The Import System is customizable: you implement a custom import plugin that imports art assets in specific formats (not supported by UNIGINE out-of-the-box). So, automatic conversion isn't limited only to the supported formats.
Manual Conversion
UNIGINE provides a set of tools that allow you to convert art assets to the native formats manually:
- ImageDDS - compresses/decompresses images to/from the DDS format.
- MeshImport - converts meshes of external formats to the native mesh formats; upgrades the outdated meshes to the up-to-date mesh formats.
- ResourceEditor - converts and saves art assets into the native mesh/animation format if they are of the following formats: .ply, .obj, .dae.
There is also OpenFlightImport plugin API that allows converting .flt models to UNIGINE native formats via API.
