2.10 looks good as the major features (API usability, new terrain and editor plugins) are switching into the final stabilization one by one.

We plan to release beta in 1-2 weeks with the final release shortly after (more likely in the beginning of November).

Current status on the main features of the 2.10 release:

  • Improved C++ API - ready to go
  • Improved C# API - final polishing, writing documentation
  • Terrain (ObjectLandscape) - stabilizing on corner cases, polishing editor integration (UI, brushes) + writing documentation & creating samples
  • Engine plugins API - ready to go
  • Editor plugins - polishing + writing documentation & creating samples
  • Project build tool (in the editor) - ready to go
  • Improved clouds - ready to go
  • Wheeled vehicle system (experimental) - stabilizing on corner cases, polishing API
  • Optimized IG performance - ready to go

We are almost there, but the team still need some time to make the proper QA and polishing. Roughly it seems like we need about 2 weeks before the production release.

No, the planet is shifted to 2.11 as we had to focus on terrain system first.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't see that there was a user survey for desired workflows when it was posted a few months ago. Is there a way to still send feedback/workflow suggestions on the Planet object?

Why 2.10 is taking so long? We are polishing the new terrain system.

ObjectLandscape provides a lot of cool and long-awaited features:

  • Extreme details up to 1 mm per pixel
  • Adaptive hardware tessellation
  • Dynamic modification in the runtime
  • Layers system with flexible blending rules
  • Optimized performance
  • Collaborative editing by a team of artists
  • Binoculars support

Almost there.

Hello, any plans for DirectX 11 deferred context support and multithreaded deferred rendering?

Posted

Hi Adrian,

I'm afraid, no. Right now the main goal is to adapt DX12 / Vulkan APIs (in the 3.x SDK versions). DX11 deferred context sounds like a good idea in theory, but in practice there are so many driver limitations that makes adding support for it a really hard task.

The final preparations are being made today (fixed nasty terrain crash and few other bugs). Hope that build will be available by the end of this week or at the beginning of the next one).

Hi Silent and thank you for the update. Do we have a rough release data for DX12/Vulkan (Unigine 3.x) release? Can we also access some early/beta build sooner?

Regards,

Adrian

Can't give you the exact dates yet. We are still trying to figure out an option of 2.x evolution with Vulkan/DX12 support.

2.10-alpha (more of a beta, actually) is here:

Thank you all for 2.10 alpha and beta feedback, it helped a lot.

Just a couple of bugs to be fixed and confirmed by QA and we start rolling out 2.10 release - expect it next week.

Working on it - trying to figure out the state of all the major development branches. We had a lot of important features on the different stages of development, so the trick is to figure out when to merge them into the production releases.

Cross section improvements will be not included into the 2,11, I'm afraid. The initial guess that it would be easy was incorrect, so we shifted this to the further releases, sorry.

Is there a plan to make the weather Addon available on Linux in future release ?

Posted

Coppel.Damien
Right now we don't have plans for porting Weather Add-on to Linux. Things may be changed in the future.

davide445
UV Rotation feature is also not included, since no changes were made yet.

The weather add-on will stay as it is for now.

We plan to keep upgrading the high-level IG system with its weather effects - clouds, fog, low visibility, precipitation. These changes are for both Windows and Linux.

2.11-alpha is now available, your feedback is very valuable to make the stable release better. Some features of 2.11 are not in alpha yet - still polishing in separate branches.
