Roadmap updated (please see the first post), including info on current feature readiness status.

2.7 looks good to be released in March, betas should be available in 2-3 weeks.

HUGE terrain improvement is on the way, more likely to be finished with 2.8 release only.

Thanks for the update.

Just one question, There will be support for Editor2 plugins in the incomming releases?

At the moment we are discussing 2 options:

  • Introduce plugins system for extension of the editor
  • Restructure the editor into set of libraries in order to be used as building blocks for domain-specific editors

The solution will not be ready in 2.7 release (since it is already booked with features), so we aim for 2.8+.

Hello, do I understand well, that with 2.7, we will be able to migrate our project to editor 2.0 pipeline, object terrain will be migrated to terrain global and we will be able to edit terrain manually in editor 2.0?

What does it mean "removed support for normals maps" in terrain section 2.8?

Btw, road tool is great news for us.

Thanks.

Yes, that's the plan.

As for the normal maps - there is a better solution, but it is still in the research phase, so a bit early to provide details.

Improved Terrain

  • Runtime modification API

Defining a set of GIS resources, will it be possible to create a terrain (GlobalTerrain) in runtime? Or completely redefine an existing one to achieve the same result.

Is beta already available?

We are working on it :)

Mostly it will be related to the simplifying the API of ObjectTerrainGlobal and adding additional features. Lanscape tool is still required for terrain generation from the GIS sources.

Klimczak.Jan
This will be in 2.8 and normals will be generated on-fly based on terrain heights. Performance will remain unchanged, but size on disk will be slightly reduced.

Working on beta now, ETA ~2 days.

The 2.7 release is planned after April, 13. A lot of effort is put into automatic migration system, in order to simplify updates for customers.

Improved full round Earth solution

Hi,

By 2015, you posted a video in which you could see the generation of the earth with data streaming and lods. It also included procedural data refinement of the different layers.
Actually there is the earth material, which has a series of attributes to generate a model of earth, as in the demo "orbits", but nothing like what was shown in the video.
How can I create something similar with data streaming and procedural data refinement, as shown in the video?

Data refinement was done with offline tools. The Earth geometry was made with a set of meshes + LOD structure.

Roadmap updated, but some specific features for 2.8-2.9 can be changed/reordered.

I ve noticed there is planned Vulcan support. Do you also consider DX12, or Vulcan is target API?

It is still to be defined, in the research phase now.

Can you describe this functionality a little bit more?

Thanks.
