[SOLVED] How to create realistic Neon Tube Lights

photo

Recommended Posts

I want to create realistic Neon Tube Lights.

This would need a cylindric light distribution which is not possible with the existing lights.

I can use an omni light an scale it in its dimanesions, so it becomes an ellipsoid, which comes closer to a tube light distribution and is workable.

One fact which is causing some non working effect are the reflected highlights in the materials, which show up only point halos.

Can I create a halo/reflection which is non spheric/point. Or alternatively, can I turn off the reflection of the halos for the reflections.

Then I may be able to fake some objects maybe to create a reflection.

Thank you.

Hi Werner,

With current shading it is impossible to get a non-spherical lights reflection.

Or alternatively, can I turn off the reflection of the halos for the reflections.

Then I may be able to fake some objects maybe to create a reflection.

I'm afraid, that is the only option available currently for your task.

Thanks!

How can I achieve that?

I mean how can I turn off reflections for lights?

Sorry, but you cant make it now, but you can increase roughness and reduce specular of the ceiling.

Ic.

I would like to add that as a feature request.

The best would be, to be able to control the reflected hotspot in terms of shape, but as well to have the possibility to turn it off/on.

That really doesnt work well in a detail scene, having a lightbody and a completely non matching hotspot.

Thank you.

Best. Werner
