when loading data in the geotiff format in landcover in data sources there is no possibility to choose the color range to which tags should be assigned tags

this happens because in 2.6.1.1 one-channel sources in landcover are always interpreted as a mask. In the upcoming 2.7 release such files will be opened as indexed sources.

The easiest way to use these files in 2.6.1.1 is to save them as RGB OR add alpha channel. For instance, in Global Mapper you can export file with "Make Background Pixels Transparent" checked.
