[SOLVED] Terrain Specularity

Hello,

I have a q. About the specularity of a terrain material.

As far as I understand, the alpha channel should give the specularity amount.

Please see attached image.

The desired result would be, no speularity at all on the yellow areas of the texture.

Which are the black areas in the alpha channel.

I can definitely see a difference in the spec. behavior, when modifying the alpha channel.

But it is always there.

I thought of a overall spec. Intensity in the terrains Diffuse map.

This effects the specular, only when I use overlap not, overlay. And in this case, the whole spacularity is effected (and no detail material spec is respected, at least when the overall spec is zero).

Which settings do I have to use, If I want the detail material specularity to be effective?

Does this depend on the number of materials?

EDIT: I set the value of the overall spec. in the terrains diffuse map to 0,5 resp. 128 (gray). Now it seems to work.

Would that be the correct approach?

Thank you.

Werner

  • Overlap materials use their alpha channel for alpha testing. Their specularity is defined by the terrain's diffuse texture and is scaled by Materials -> Parameters -> Specular.

Overlay materials use the alpha channel for specular intensity. And 127 is indeed for 0 effect. Check more in the docs.
