Ben_93 Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 Hi all, Having a bit of fun in 2.19.1 and having some difficulty figuring out how to disable screen space shadows for impostors created using the imposter tool. You can see in these screenshots attached disabling screen space shadows in the imposter material has no effect on the shadow underneath the billboard. Any idea how to turn it off? I dont like how SSS looks like at distance on the impostors but want to keep it on close up objects :) Ben
arizmenda Posted July 8, 2025 Posted July 8, 2025 Hi, Ben! Yeah, that checkbox doesn't turn off screen space shadows from the object; rather, it tells the engine not to receive screen space shadows on that material. At the moment (as of 2.19.1), there's unfortunately no direct way to disable screen space shadow casting from impostors using material settings. Although, there is a way to achieve the effect you're aiming for: in the light (sun) settings, you can adjust the Screen Space Shadow Near/Far Distance values. These define the range over which SSS is rendered - reducing the Far Distance value will prevent distant objects like impostors from casting screen space shadows while keeping it enabled for nearby geometry. This is the best workaround for now. The good news is that support for more flexible impostors (based on material graph logic) is planned for future releases - so this kind of setup should become easier soon. Hope this helps! 1
