Material graph: mesh or surface ID ?

Hi,

Is there some kind of identifier we can access in the shader graph that would be related to mesh or surface ID?

I'd like to use such an ID to apply the same material to all meshes in a CAD model (thousands of surfaces/meshes) but show them distinctively with a different hue. The surface ID could be used for example as an offset in a 1D texture where each pixel is a different color.

Alternatively, this could also be used to add slight variation to a material, so two adjacents pieces with the same "textured metal" still look slightly different.

Hi Stephane,

Currently there is no way to do this, but we are also considering adding similar functionality in the future (maybe alongside with clear coat or maybe as a separate piece).

Some additional research is required here also how to do it better. Right now I can't give you any exact ETA on this, but in case of any updates from R&D team we will surely let you know.
