2.14beta Sandworm imagery & elevation bugs

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Testing 2.14beta with French IGN data. Some elevation file are shown as pure white in the tool, even though the files are correctly read and generate a correct result. It looks like elevation file with no-data pixels are always shown solid white.

Regarding imagery, I understood that ECW and JP2 are still not supported in this early beta, but JPG and PNG can't be loaded too? Geotiff works, but this format is very heavy and not so practical for heavy pixel density.

Side note: a few suggestions:

  • have a way to toggle on/off the display of the imagery layers (to check there is some elevation beneath, for example)
  • when clicking a tile/feature in the graphic view, select/highlight the tile files in elevation and/or imagery/etc

Thanks!

Could you be so kind and share those files with us? What exactly projection was selected in Sandworm tool window? Some projection might be displayed incorrectly at this moment and it was mention at known issues part in release notes

The rest of extension will work only if their are georeferenced, any PNG or JPG files should displays correctly if they are contains geographic data. If you have any specific georeferenced .JPG or .PNG files that are not displayed, please send them too so that we can see what is the reason

There is no toggle at this moment and this is a great suggestion by the way, but you already can solve case where you need to check if there is some elevation beneath imagery, just click on desired tile with right mouse button in file hierarchy or on map and select "Move to foreground" or "Move to background" in drop down menu

I may not understand you, but the specified feature is already done, for doing this you need to go to the selection mode and click on the desired tile, please see the attached video below

Thanks!

Here are some test files (elevation and georeferenced jpg) (sorry if this is a known bug and already planned to be fixed, but as it's the src data we'll use, better be safe)

13JPG.zipRGEALTI_MNT_5M_ASC_LAMB93_IGN69_D013.zip

the full data set was already linked here:

Projection is EPSG 2154 (if you download the set from the IGN, you may need to create the missing PRJ files with QGIS).

Thanks for the other tricks, I wasn't aware of them! Great!

Other suggestion: being able to group layers (kind of subfolders). I think it was done in the previous tool.

Hello!

Stephane, we look into sources and feels like there is something broken with "13-2017-0865-6255-LA93-0M20-E080.jpg" file from "13JPG.ZIP".

Problem is that even QGIS couldn't work correctly with these files, basically it should recognize with any of projection you set, but this one positioned right only if you set 2154 manually.

If you change the projection for example to 3857, that source will be displaced again, but it should work with any projection if it was exported correctly.

See the video below, here is comparison with another source that is positioned correctly regardless of the selected projection

Even additional file "13-2017-0865-6255-LA93-0M20-E080.tab" says that is JPEG2000(JP2) but file comes as regular JPEG extension. This is another reason why we believe that there may be some problem with the source.

So, from now it's hard to say where problem comes from, might we missing something or those files actually corrupted?

As for the solid white tiles - the problem was reproduced on our side and we are still trying to find out the reasons for this behavior

This is already in our TODO list but more likely we will add this in some of following releases.

Thanks!
