SSRTGI: RTX vs GTX

Hi!

I was wondering if the new RTX 2080 ti may offer better results in terms of SSRTGI in VR compared to the GTX 1080 ti. And if so, how much better can it be? Has anybody had any experience in this field?

There is also a mention of support for Star VR One in the upcoming SDK. The headset supports two gpus, each of them rendering the image for one eye. Does it mean it will then be possible to have VR rendered with multiple gpus ( according to the docs, currently this setup does not give any gains in VR performance) on other devices as well?

Hi Piotr,

RTX2080Ti is generally faster than GTX1080Ti, so performance increase will be for sure. It's hard to predict the actual number due to each scene is different. In small VR optimized game it can be 20-30%. For VR it's also better to used pre-baked Voxel GI even with RTX1080Ti.

StarVR integration is likely to be introduce in the next version, but right now without multi-GPU support. However, StarVR integration can be postponed to the next version.

In the next SDK version we will introduce built-in stereo reprojection that will add performance for all apps that works in HMDs on a single GPU. For heavy GPU-bound apps it will help to maintain higher framerates (20-50% increase depending on a test scene). However, stereo reprojection will not help a lot if you have 45 fps or less, it's mostly suitable fo stable 60-70 fps.
