DOF Artefacts

Hi,

 

we are experiencing very ugly and crazy behaving DOF artefacts.

These are definitely disturbing in a moving image as they are flickering a lot and do not look good at all.

 

This is not a new issue. (is it the texture resolution of the downsampled image?)

 

We want to get rid of that.

Hi Werner,

 

I'm afraid we need some additional information.

 

Could you please send us the materials library with gloves' material?

 

Also Unigine log file may help to get to the root of the problem faster.

Thanks for the scene!

 

I'm afraid it's not a bug, but the known problem of the current realization.

You can avoid such problem by decreasing the range of distances where you can see blurry and fully-legible objects at once, if it's suitable.

Hello,

 

thanks for looking at the scene.

 

Unfortunately I couldnt get any proper setting to work with our scene.

The way, the scene is built, and the little distances dont give me enough room for moving the focal point.

Maybe I will find a in between solution with a smaller blur setting.

 

Is it possible, to render some objects completely without blurring it, like a mask e.g. So I could take out at least the frog?

 

The sleeves will be very difficult as they reach from near to far.

 

I still have some time until this project is published.

 

Will this DOF be reworked in one of the next releases?

 

It is definitely a huge visual artefact, which draws too much attention.

The whole image rendering is very smooth and flawless, which we all appreciate.

 

Many Usertests have shown, that these flickering causes the viewer to ask questions about this "effect".

This is not wanted, and my artist is pretty upset about that fact.

 

We cannot publish this project until this issue is resolved, so I hope you can help me please.

Will this DOF be reworked in one of the next releases?

 

We have plan to improve DOF quality (we understand that right now it can look not as expected). Unfortunately, we can't guarantee that it will be available in the next SDK update, sorry. More likely DOF shader will be reworked later this year.
